The Book of Hosea (Hebrew: סֵפֶר הוֹשֵׁעַ , romanized: Sefer Hōšēaʿ) is one of the books of the Hebrew ing to the traditional order of most Hebrew Bibles, it is the first of the twelve Minor Prophets.. Set around the fall of the Northern Kingdom of Israel, the Book of Hosea denounces the worship of gods other than Yahweh (the God of Israel), metaphorically. The name Israel first appears in the Hebrew Bible in Genesis It refers to the renaming of Jacob, who, according to the Bible, wrestled with an angel, who gave him a blessing and renamed him Israel because he had "striven with God and with men, and have prevailed".
Perhaps this expression, ‘the Israel of God,’ is to be contrasted with his expression in 1 Corinthians , ‘Israel after the flesh’ (KJV), as the true, believing Israel versus the unbelieving element, just as in Romans the apostle distinguishes two Israels, one elect and believing, the other unbelieving, but both ethnic. Again and again in this week's portion the Torah commands us, reminds us, pleads with us, to hear the words that it comes to teach"If/because [eikev] you hear and obey these rules and observe them faithfully," Moses promises Israel in the very first verse of the parashah, God will favor you, bless you, multiply you (Deut. –13).If/because [eikev] you do not hear and obey the voice.

Praise for the previous edition: “Bauckham proposes a clearly superior way of reading the evidence about the relationship between the New Testament's claims about Jesus.

"LORD God of Israel, there is no one like you, God in heaven above or on the earth below, who watches over his covenant, showing gracious love to your servants who live their lives in your presence God of Israel book all their is you, LORD God, who have kept your promise to my father, your servant David, that you made to him.

Robertson puts his finger on the issue in these opening words. The quote is from President Clinton in before the Israeli Knesset. The title, ‘Quedos Yisrael’ (Hebrew, meaning, ‘The Holy One of Israel’) was used many times by the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah, as well as by other writers in the psalms.
Isaiah, for example, complains that the people have forsaken God and have turned away from "the Holy One of Israel. Yahweh was the national god of the kingdoms of Israel (Samaria) and Judah. His origins reach at least to the early Iron Age and apparently to the Late Bronze Age, and in the oldest biblical literature he is a storm-and-warrior deity who leads the heavenly army against Israel's enemies.
At that time the Israelites worshipped Yahweh alongside a variety of Canaanite gods and goddesses, including. Later, God appears to Jacob/Israel again in Bethel, reaffirms the name change, and gives him the same covenant that Abraham had received (Genesis –12). Thus the “heel-catcher” became “one who struggles with God.” It was before he met with God in Bethel that Jacob purposefully put away his idols and purified himself (verse 2).
The name of God used most often in the Hebrew Bible is (י ה ו ה ), (generally transcribed as YHWH) and is called the Tetragrammaton (Greek for "something written with four letters").
Hebrew script is an abjad, so that the letters Yōd, Hē, Vav, Hē in this name are normally consonants, usually expanded in English as "Yahweh". Modern Jewish culture judges it forbidden to pronounce this. God-Fearers will help Gentiles enter into the riches of Torah in ways that support a genuinely Jewish movement for Messiah Yeshua.

Reviewing my notes from this book this is the best one I've read on the subject of replacement theology. Thus I am revising my review. He has great insight on all the issues surrounding chosen-ness of Israel, identity as Gentiles, God's plan for mutual blessing between the two and the redemption of both through Israel's covenantal history, and the historical origins of replacement theology/5.

The book is probably a collection of early Israelite war songs including hymns of victory, curses, mocking songs, and other literary genres recounting the victories of Yahweh, the God of Israel, over his enemies; it indicates that biblical books rely on both written and oral tradition.

One that we all must be aware of- one no one else can know of- but which is the utmost test of Free Will. God, Israel and You is a fresh and insightful perspective on an over saturated and over politicized subject. The book invites you to think honestly and courageously about Israel.
Rather than coming at the issues with an us-versus-them mentality, God, Israel, and You reveals a God who is involved and gets His hands dirty by working through flawed people like you and me/5(10).
