The Book of Hosea (Hebrew: סֵפֶר הוֹשֵׁעַ ‎, romanized: Sefer Hōšēaʿ) is one of the books of the Hebrew ing to the traditional order of most Hebrew Bibles, it is the first of the twelve Minor Prophets.. Set around the fall of the Northern Kingdom of Israel, the Book of Hosea denounces the worship of gods other than Yahweh (the God of Israel), metaphorically. The name Israel first appears in the Hebrew Bible in Genesis It refers to the renaming of Jacob, who, according to the Bible, wrestled with an angel, who gave him a blessing and renamed him Israel because he had "striven with God and with men, and have prevailed".

Perhaps this expression, ‘the Israel of God,’ is to be contrasted with his expression in 1 Corinthians , ‘Israel after the flesh’ (KJV), as the true, believing Israel versus the unbelieving element, just as in Romans the apostle distinguishes two Israels, one elect and believing, the other unbelieving, but both ethnic.   Again and again in this week's portion the Torah commands us, reminds us, pleads with us, to hear the words that it comes to teach"If/because [eikev] you hear and obey these rules and observe them faithfully," Moses promises Israel in the very first verse of the parashah, God will favor you, bless you, multiply you (Deut. –13).If/because [eikev] you do not hear and obey the voice.

Lord God of Israel in Greek: Kyrios ho Theos tou Israēl. Strong’s Concordance numbers: , , Bible reference: Luke (not NIV, Msg, Amp) Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people (Luke ) In this verse, the name is a modified quotation from the Old Testament. In. This book is a greatly revised and expanded edition of Richard Bauckham's acclaimed God Crucified: Monotheism and Christology in the New Testament (), which helped redirect scholarly discussion of early Christology. Praise for the previous edition: “Bauckham proposes a clearly superior way of reading the evidence about the relationship between the New Testament's claims about Jesus.

The 'Israel of God' examines changes in the concept of Israel between the testaments. He devotes chapters to the land, the people, their worship, pilgrim lifestyle and especially its kingdom. He concludes with an exposition of Romans 11 and then crystallises the book with 12 propositions.

Read 11 reviews from the world's largest community for readers. This is a book about Gentiles and the Go /5. "LORD God of Israel, there is no one like you, God in heaven above or on the earth below, who watches over his covenant, showing gracious love to your servants who live their lives in your presence God of Israel book all their is you, LORD God, who have kept your promise to my father, your servant David, that you made to him.

Indeed, you made a commitment to my father David and then personally. “If you abandon Israel, God will never forgive you it is God’s will that Israel, the biblical home of the people of Israel, continue for ever and ever.” This is how O. Palmer Robertson begins his book The Israel of God.

Robertson puts his finger on the issue in these opening words. The quote is from President Clinton in before the Israeli Knesset. The title, ‘Quedos Yisrael’ (Hebrew, meaning, ‘The Holy One of Israel’) was used many times by the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah, as well as by other writers in the psalms.

Isaiah, for example, complains that the people have forsaken God and have turned away from "the Holy One of Israel. Yahweh was the national god of the kingdoms of Israel (Samaria) and Judah. His origins reach at least to the early Iron Age and apparently to the Late Bronze Age, and in the oldest biblical literature he is a storm-and-warrior deity who leads the heavenly army against Israel's enemies.

At that time the Israelites worshipped Yahweh alongside a variety of Canaanite gods and goddesses, including. Later, God appears to Jacob/Israel again in Bethel, reaffirms the name change, and gives him the same covenant that Abraham had received (Genesis –12). Thus the “heel-catcher” became “one who struggles with God.” It was before he met with God in Bethel that Jacob purposefully put away his idols and purified himself (verse 2).

The name of God used most often in the Hebrew Bible is (י ה ו ה ‎), (generally transcribed as YHWH) and is called the Tetragrammaton (Greek for "something written with four letters").

Hebrew script is an abjad, so that the letters Yōd, Hē, Vav, Hē in this name are normally consonants, usually expanded in English as "Yahweh". Modern Jewish culture judges it forbidden to pronounce this. God-Fearers will help Gentiles enter into the riches of Torah in ways that support a genuinely Jewish movement for Messiah Yeshua.

Reviewing my notes from this book this is the best one I've read on the subject of replacement theology. Thus I am revising my review. He has great insight on all the issues surrounding chosen-ness of Israel, identity as Gentiles, God's plan for mutual blessing between the two and the redemption of both through Israel's covenantal history, and the historical origins of replacement theology/5.

The Israel Bible is a bilingual English-Hebrew version of the Hebrew Bible, edited by Rabbi Tuly Weisz and published in Junefor the 70th anniversary of the Israeli Declaration of Independence.

It contains the full text of the Hebrew Bible along with scholarly introductions to each book of the Bible and various maps, charts, illustrations, and photographs. Chapters 1–18 narrate the history of the Egyptian bondage, the Exodus from Egypt, and the journey to Mount Sinai under the leadership of second half of the book tells of the Covenant that was established between God and Israel at Sinai and promulgates laws for the ordering of Israel’s life.

Since Exodus continues the sacred story of the divine promise to Israel begun in Genesis. Book of the Wars of Yahweh, lost document referred to and quoted in the Old Testament (Num. ff.). The book is probably a collection of early Israelite war songs including hymns of victory, curses, mocking songs, and other literary genres recounting the victories of Yahweh, the God of Israel, over his enemies; it indicates that biblical books rely on both written and oral tradition.

Offering an alternative to 'functional' and 'ontic' Christology, Bauckham convincingly argues that the divine identitywho God truly iscan be witnessed in Jesus' humiliation, suffering, death, and resurrection.

One that we all must be aware of- one no one else can know of- but which is the utmost test of Free Will. God, Israel and You is a fresh and insightful perspective on an over saturated and over politicized subject. The book invites you to think honestly and courageously about Israel.

Rather than coming at the issues with an us-versus-them mentality, God, Israel, and You reveals a God who is involved and gets His hands dirty by working through flawed people like you and me/5(10).

Drawing upon biblical prophecy regarding the future blossoming of the land of Israel, this coffee-table book compares pictures from the s to s with modern views of Israel, to show how far the country has come: sandy deserts turned into booming.Jews do not commonly refer to the Land of Israel as "Holy Land" (Hebrew: אֶרֶץ הַקוֹדֵשׁ Eretz HaKodesh). The Tanakh explicitly refers to it as "holy land" in only one passage.

The term "holy land" is further used twice in the deuterocanonical books. The holiness of the Land of Israel is generally implied in the Tanakh by the Land being given to the Israelites by God, that is, it.
